Keeping Up With Korea

It seems that dear old North Korea cannot stay out of the spotlight this week. Dictator, leader, adolescent, whatever you choose he prefers the name Kim Jong Un. This week Kim vowed to get his revenge on President Donald Trump for "denying the existence of his country and insulting him" while addressing the United Nations earlier. Obviously the state of North Korea is hard to ignore at this point and President Trump is simply trying to stand his ground. Personally, I view Kim Jong Un as an adult sized infant who should not be in charge of himself let alone an entire country. However, that is just that - my opinion. The fact that Kim has access to nuclear weapons is what is alarming. The threat of nuclear warfare between our two opposing countries has been building up over the past few months. Will this be the statement that sends poor Kim over the edge?

  1. Coming from a military background at home, I honestly feel that North Korea is full of empty threats. While he does have access to some pretty legitimate weapons, he constantly threatens to take a stab at the U.S. My husband is in the military and I often worry something will happen to him or he will have to go on a deployment, but he constantly reassures me that there will be nothing. It's pretty scary to think about what will be the "last straw" for North Korea will be.

  2. I agree with Mr. Guthrie, I think N. Korea is definitely full of empty threats. There are too many factors that go into whether they would truly attempt to fire on us. If anything they will fire on a US ally, making it more reasonable for us to take actions. However, when we consider what is going on stateside, Trump needs to be a little more censored in what he says via social media and the news. People may take it the wrong way and serious consequences will result from it.

  4. The "war" between North Korea and the United States has in my opinion gone a step too far. Tweeting the non-existence of a country over twitter is one thing. And testing missiles every other day, regardless of the sanctions being handed to you left or right is another. To me it seems like two peacocks showing their feathers and who will be the brightest. North Korea is a country that very few will ever know, or understand for that matter. We need to take a stand and take the right and appropriate actions that will punish North Korea, and strength our national affairs, which I feel like isn't being done right now.

  5. It has become a time of escalated tensions between the U.S. and North Korea. Sometimes I wonder, taking history into account and all, if it hasn't always been a plan within higher levels of our government and elitists to take on North Korea. Never mind that senseless conspiracy talk though, the fact remains that tensions are escalating, and the citizens of both countries (especially North Korea) are being riled up. I hope we can somehow come to a peaceful deescalation, but we'll just have to see how the paper skinned Kim takes any more commentary from Trump and vise-versa.
